Falcons

Falcons are small raptors with long pointed wings and a short hooked beak. Females are usually larger than the males. The birds do not build a nest themselves, but use old nests from other birds or cavities in buildings and trees. Tamed falcons are used by people to scare away nuisance birds, such as pigeons or birds on air fields.

On Texel

The kestrel and the hobby nest on Texel. You sometimes see the peregrine and the merlin during bird migration or as a winter guest.
