Marine fauna
Animal life in the sea is extremely complicated. The most important ones by far are those organisms that are unable to swim against the sea current: the phytoplankton and animal plankton, or zooplankton. Other important groups in open waters swim around, such as sea fish, cuttlefish and marine mammals. Seabirds fly above, swim in and dive under the sea surface. Parasites are found in all of the animal categories. Furthermore, one can make a distinction between the various habitats: the benthic fauna, the deep-sea fauna, fauna in the coastal water and fauna in tidal areas.
