Flower bulb industry

The flower bulb industry in the wadden region occupies around one third of the total Dutch aerial in bulbs. In 1996, the division of land was the following: Texel (386 ha), Land van Zijpe (4976 ha), the Wieringermeer (478 ha), North Friesland (137 ha) and the Marne (114 ha). In 2000, there were around 3000 flower bulb farms in the Netherlands, occupying a total of 20,000 hectare ground. A lot of pesticides are used in growing flower bulbs.
