Oyster farming in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands nowadays, oysters are only farmed in the delta region, and then specifically in the Oosterschelde and the Grevelingen. Two species of oysters are farmed: (native) flat oysters and the Pacific oyster (creuses). An area of 0.5 square meters has been designated for farming Pacific oysters in Schleswig-Holstein. The government permits wild Pacific oysters to be gathered on a limited scale in the Dutch Wadden Sea.
