Fishing with a rod in the Netherlands is mostly done by sport fishermen. In other countries, handlining is a profession. A group of Dutch handline fishermen have founded the Association for Professional Handline Fishermen. They focus on catching cod and sea bass, which are sold at the auction. Because they spare nature and the environment, they soon hope to receive the MSC certificate for their catch. This is a mark of quality for fish caught in a responsible and sustainable manner.
