Gillnetting

Gillnetting is the overall term referring to all the fishing methods in which the net hangs in the water. The fish must swim voluntarily into the net or is carried there by the current. One uses the gill and trammel nets to catch cod, salmon and large flatfish (turbot, large sole). The fisheries which use fyke nets (eel, sea bass, lobster) and traps (lobster, crabs) also belong to this category.
