Dutch nature conservation organisations

There are various nature conservation organisations active in the coastal regions. They are engaged with the protection, conservation and development of nature. In addition to the large national organisations such as the Natuurmonumenten (Society for the Promotion of Nature Reserves) and the State Forestry, each province has its own Provincial Landscape Societies (the Landschap Noord-Holland, Stichting het Groninger Landschap, It Fryske Gea), joined together by the Union of Provincial Landscape Societies.

  • Large land owners

Together, these provincial landscape societies own more than 66,000 hectares of nature areas in all of the Netherlands. In some parts of the dunes, the management is in the hands of a water company, such as the Town Water Company of Amsterdam and the NV PWN Water Company of North-Holland.
