Ramsar Convention

The Ramsar Treaty was concluded in 1971. This treaty was the first step for protecting the birds in internationally important wetlands. It requires governments to protect regions and to allow the interest of nature to weigh more heavily than human interests. Unfortunately, many states have not been very energetic in executing the regulations of the Ramsar Treaty.
