Burning

Dune farmers used to occasionally burn off dune grasslands when the grass could no longer be used as cuttings. The vegetation was rejuvenated and produced more tender grass sorts. Nowadays, one does not use burning often as a management policy. It can be used in the dunes, on heath, on grasslands or in the woods. Sometimes, one chooses for burning off a terrain when other management policies, such as mowing, felling and cutting sods are more expensive. The disadvantage of burning is that small animals have little chance of fleeing.
