Yacht harbours in the wadden region

The Dutch and Niedersachsen part of the Wadden Sea are intensely used for pleasure boating. The recreational activities in the Schleswig-Holstein and Danish area are less. Consequently, the capacitis in the Dutch and Niedersachen yacht harbours are significantly greater than the other two regions.

  • Anchorage

The harbours in the Dutch wadden region have room for a total of 4600 pleasure boats. The maximum capacity has been established in the PKB-Wadden Sea. The size of the harbours vary strongly. Only a few boats can stay on Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.
The harbours of North Holland are in Den Helder, Den Oever and Oudeschild (Texel). In Friesland, one can anchor in Harlingen, Oostmahorn, Lauwersoog, and on Vlieland, Ameland and Terschelling. In Groningen, there are harbours in Zoutkamp, Delfzijl en Termunterzijl. There are several docks for temporary visitors in Nieuw Statenzijl and Noordpolderzijl. And finally, there are areas for anchorage in the Ems harbour.

  • Waste collection in the Dutch yacht harbours

Since April 1 1996, after years of discussion and insistence especially from the Waddenvereniging, it is now possible for every type of waste product coming off of pleasure craft to be handed in at all 31 locations in the wadden area. The North-Netherlands section of the Public Works and Water Management has paid around a half million Euros for the preliminary costs. The fixed costs for collection and processing of the waste products are apportioned via the harbour rates. In addition to oil-polluted wastewater, chemicals and other environmentally harmful materials can also be turned in.
