Environmental Planning

In the Dutch Law for Environmental Planning, the government has determined that national policy with respect to environmental planning must be laid down in PKBs, which show what is allowed and not allowed per large area. The provinces work out the PKB definitions in the form of regional plans, upon which the towns base their zoning plans. The law determines that all of these plans must be achieved via precisely described public inquiry procedures.

The Environmental Planning Notes form the PKBs for the Dutch territory as a whole. In the Planning Note from 2004, governmental policy with respect to the national area was further elaborated upon. Due to the specific problems which play a role in the Wadden Sea, a separate PKB (Third PKB Wadden Sea) is valid for this region.
