Shipping wastes
Shipping waste consists mostly of remnants from cargo loads, plastic, old paint cans, wood, textile, kitchen wastes and rope. For a long time, this waste was thrown overboard. Some of the pollution came from material not meant to fall overboard or from lost nets. Beachcombers on the shore experienced much pleasure from these occurrences. However, insights into the risks of environmentally dangerous materials and marine litter have led to a strict policy that was enforced in 2006. This policy deals with collection of waste from all ships which sail in Dutch waters. The Port reception facilities play an important role in these matters.
