Schiphol-in-Sea

In 1997, the Dutch airport Schiphol had over-extended its possibilities for expansion and was unable to grow any further due to noise inconvenience. Since then, many plans have been made to solve the problem. However, the plans keep perishing due to various reasons. Once again, in 2008, the Province of North-Holland has come up with a new plan. In the table below, you can see a summary of the events since 1997.

  • Altenative plan

An alternative plan for an airport on an island is a floating airport that can turn with the wind. The airport would have to consist of a permanent terminal with a floating runway. The authors think that the plan can be executed from funds earned by selling the land of the present runways of Schiphol for building houses. A small floating airport in Japan was tested with success.
