Ecological processes

Large amounts of materials and energy circulate in the food chains within and between the ecosystems. Therefore, there are numerous numbers of food chains and cycles in nature. When the supply of nutrients for an ecosystem strongly increases, one speaks of eutrophication. When harmful materials accumulate in the food chain, one speaks of bio-accumulation.
