Photosynthesis

Green plants are capable of converting carbon dioxide gas and water into sugars using sunlight as an energy source. On the basis of these sugars, they produce all kinds of compounds which they use to grow. From this process, which is call photosynthesis, oxygen is released in the water and air. In this way, phytoplankton provide the basis for all life in the sea; this role is performed by plants on land.
