European common frog

The European common frog is wide-spread throughout Europe. European common frogs do not grow larger than ten centimeters and can vary in color and spottiness. These frogs live most of their life on land as long as it is a damp environment. During mating season in the winter, they live in open water.

  • Threatened species

The European common frog is a threatened species on the Red List for amphibians and reptiles in the international wadden region. In the Netherlands, this frog is still commonly found, however it is threatened in Germany and is potentially threatened in Denmark. The threats are mainly due to the disappearance of suitable habitats and changes in water management.
