Grebes

Grebes are water birds, the best divers and swimmers around. In fact, they prefer diving under water than flying away when in danger. They are clearly not in their element on land, where they are unhandy wagglers. This is because their legs are located close to their rear end. Besides the species that nest in the Netherlands, such as the blacked-necked and little grebe, horned grebes are also sometimes seen in the winter in the Wadden Sea.
