Amphipods

The literal meaning of amphipod is different-footed'. They are shrimp-like animals, the most common being the sand-hopper. Around 4600 species of amphipods have been discovered up till now, each one often differing completely in body shape. Amphipods are the most common group of crustaceans in the North Sea and bordering tidal regions. The Hyperia galba, gammarid, chameleon shrimp, Corophium and scud are all amphipods. Whale louse also belong to this group.
