Prawns and shrimp

Most people think shrimp are pink, but that only happens when they are boiled. Living shrimp are grayish or transparent. There are dozens of species of prawns and shrimp living in the sea. Most species are between 3 to 7 centimeters in length. In addition to brown shrimp, which is often caught with a simple fishing net on the beach, prawns and brackish water shrimp are also found in the North Sea region. Prawns are sold in the store under the name 'Norwegian shrimp', while brown shrimp are sold as 'Holland shrimp'. Brackish water shrimp live in the channels of the Wadden Sea and salt marshes. Despite their name or appearance, chameleon shrimp and Corophium are amphipods and do not belong to the shrimp family. Mud shrimp are related to the shrimp family but belong to the Callianassa family.
