Shrew family

Shrews are small but fierce hunters. They eat worms, beetles and other insects. In turn, they are consumed by owls. Mammals rarely eat shrews, because they stink.

On Texel

There are two species of shrews on Texel: the European water shrew and the greater white-toothed shrew. The water shrew found here has a different coloring than on the mainland and the white-toothed shrew is a newcomer, having arrived only in 2006.
