Voles

Voles don't live long with maximum life expectancy of 1.5 years. They need to eat large quantities and often. Therefore, they only sleep for short periods of time, several minutes at the most. Voles form an important source of food for raptors, owls and land predators. Not many species of voles are found on the Wadden Islands, if any at all, while you find various species living in the same area on the mainland.
