Sea squirts contain a tough hull of cellulose-like material, the sac, and an incurrent oral siphon and excurrent atrial siphon and a gill 'basket' with which it filters plankton. Some species form colonies, in which the individual animal is difficult to recognize.Examples of sea squirts are the Botryllus schlosseri, the Styela clava, the Ascidiella scabra, the Molgula manhattansis and the Ciona intestinalis.
