Harebell

Unless you wanted a thunderstorm, you never would have pick harebells in olden times, which was then popular belief. It is a tender plant with bright blue bells. Although it is common in certain areas of the Netherlands, it is protected. It is actually scarce in most dune regions, but does generally well on Texel along the borders of the inland dunes, on tuinwallen (garden walls) and along roadsides. Harebells grow on nutrient-poor sandy ground and in river valleys. It prefers dry, sunny grasslands.
