Brackish water-crowfoot has adapted well to living in brackish as well as fresh water. It grows above as well as under water and its leaves develop accordingly. Those leaves which float on the surface or stick out of the water are flat with usually 3 lobes while those under water are hair-like and branched. Brackish water-crowfoot grows in nutrient-rich waters. It actually profits from grazing animals that fertilize the water. Although this plant can grow in fresh water, it often runs into heavy competition with other plants. That is why it does so well where these plants can't survive, such as brackish situations. It even survives if the pool dries up in the summer or freezes in the winter!
