Markiezaat
The Markiezaat is actually a shortened name for the 'Drowned land of the Markizaat of Bergen op Zoom'. It is part of the Oosterschelde, located southwest of Bergen op Zoom. Since it was closed off from the sea in 1984, it has developed into a freshwater marsh region, 2400 hectares large. Forty percent of the area is open water, Lake Markiezaat.
