Buurderduinen

The Buurderduinen is a slightly hilly dune region with a number of damp valleys in the west and a large thickly overgrown valley in the east. The vegetation is similar to the Nesserduinen: dune grassland with dune heath alternating with damp valleys of dune heath, creeping willow brushwood and grasslands.

  • Human influence

    The western part of the Buurderduinen is influenced by recreation and water extraction. The sea dunes have been re-enforced here with sand nourishments.

  • Flora

    Some of the flora found in the Buurderduinen include Hulten's meadow-rue (Thalictrum minus), fairy flax, rue-leaved saxifrage and round-leaved wintergreen.

  • Birds

    Twenty-nine different bird species have been observed in this area is twenty-nine, including the marsh harrier.
