Ennemaborg

On the border of the Dollard clay and sand grounds of Winschoten lie the terrains of the estate Ennemaborg. This area is presently well known for the koniks or tarpans, the wild horses. However, there is much more.

  • Borg

In the first place, the borg itself is now inhabited by an artist and can be visited by appointment or during expositions. In the (early) spring, the 'börgbloumkes', Groningen dialect for plants belonging to the stinsen flora, grow around the borg. Thick bunches of winter aconite (Eranthis hyemalis), farmer crocuses, snowdrops and lady's smocks color the fields of grass. The white flowers of the star-of-Bethlehem blossoms later in the spring, hidden among the long grass. With a bit of effort, one may even find the star of Bethlehem (Gagea fistulosa) and arum.
