Nature on Vlieland

No other Dutch Wadden Island has as much nature as Vlieland. Of the 39 square kilometers land, only 0.4 square kilometers has been built upon. The rest is dunes, forest and beach. Vlieland has many different nature areas: the tidal flats and salt marshes, the dunes, the woods, Kroon's polders, the beach, the Vliehors and the Richel. Within all these different areas, there is a great diversity in fauna, flora and vegetation. In addition to normal recreation, several activities take place in these areas, such as hunting, agriculture and grazing.
