Nature areas in North Groningen

They are usually small, the pieces of open nature in Groningen. Since the beginning of its existence, most of the land was cultivated. Nevertheless, there are some beautiful places, not always open to the public, yet possible to admire from a distance. There are salt marshes, an old wierde or a terrain where a 'borg' used to be or still is. Some of the nature areas in North Groningen include the Dollard, the Punt van Reide, the duck decoy Nieuw Onrust, the old dike by Den Andel, the Reitdiepdal, the drinking holes near Midwolda, the Ennemaborg, the Tjamme, Rottumeroog and Rottumerplaat and the Lauwersmeer.
