Norwegian lobster

Just like the common lobster, Norwegian lobster has an armored body with large claws which have rows of small spines on the top edge. The Norway lobster is smaller than the (common) lobster, however is just as often consumed as its larger cousin. Norwegian lobster is sold under various names, particularly langoustines and sometimes†even scampi, which is actually a shrimp. Norwegian lobsters caught in the Netherlands are mostly sold to southern countries. It is overfished, which is why†there is a maximum number allowed to be caught.

  • Distribution and habitat

    Norwegian lobster is commonly found in the deep parts of the North Sea, along the entire European Atlantic coast and the Mediterranean Sea. It lives in large groups at a depth of around 30 to 800 meters deep. The lobster digs long branched tunnels in the muddy bottom for a home. In the North Sea, Norwegian lobster is found†north of the Frisian Front.
